Songbird Bakery has opened its doors ready for the public to taste its array of quirky cupcakes.
Joining the other independent food businesses situated on Bedford Street, Songbird is offering bespoke, handmade cupcakes to the residents of Middlesbrough.
The bakery, which has a decor and menu inspired by the Hummingbird Bakery cafe’s, offers a range of cupcakes, from vanilla to tasty chocolate.
Owners, Shelley Tyreman and Claire Philpott, met whilst working at Teesside Park’s Hobbycraft and cooked up the dream during their shifts.
“Emma was always so skilled at cake decorating and I had a passion for baking so we knew this was the next step for us,” says Shelley
“It’s hard to believe that something we jokingly talked about 3 years ago is now a reality.
“We find it so surreal that after months of planning and building we’re finally here, making a stamp on Middlesbrough’s food world.”
With the name inspired by their mutual love of Fleetwood Macand branding created by Claire’s graphic designer husband, every bit of this business has been kept in the family.
“When we moved in it was literally bare. Our families have had to help with everything from the plumbing to even choosing where we put plug sockets. We now know every nook of our shop!” adds Claire
“It’s the ideal place to eat cake, have a good cup of tea and a friendly chat.”
Songbird Bakery is now open to the public from Monday to Friday and is available to order personalised cakes from.
